frequently asked questions
Q - Does the stick come in a longer size?
A - I have tested several different lengths and determined that the size of The Skinny Stick is ideal for several reasons.
1. The Skinny Stick is designed so that the maximum distance your hand must reach forward to the Velcro Pad and backward to the Receiver is 48 inches, which is also the maximum water depth for anchoring.
2. There is no need to use a “shallow water” anchor in depths of more than 4 feet deep (I‘ve only dropped it deeper than 4 ft once in 7 years). If you notice fishermen using hand-driven stake out poles, there’s usually about 3 to 5 feet sticking up above the water; that’s extra length not being used.
3. It’s undesirable to have a 5 or 6 ft stick swaying in the “up position” when your kayak is rocking back and forth in wind or boat waves.

Q: The Skinny Stick looks like a new product. How do I know that it will last?
A: The Skinny Stick was developed through exhaustive trial and error to achieve the best possible design and materials. It has actually been field tested over ten thousand times in the past 7 years. It uses the toughest, highest quality components that are built to last a very long time.
Q: How do I care for and maintain my Skinny Stick?
A: Remove the stick and sleeve and wrap the nylon line around the stick as shown in the installation video. To protect the anchor from UV damage, always store the Skinny Stick indoors or in your vehicle when not in use.
Q - I've been told that sticking a stake-out pole through a scupper hole can crack your kayak. Can The Skinny Stick scupper hole option do this?
A- Sticking a pole through your scupper hole can indeed damage some kayaks, depending on the force applied (either by wind, current, or you). The pole acts as a lever that puts too much compressive force on two spots in the hole.
The Skinny Stick Model SH puts NO force on the hole itself. The force is transferred to the four mounting screws by shearing force (I spent a day in 25 knot winds with excellent results).
